A Nile cruise and a sunrise balloon ride belong together: most cruises start or finish in Luxor, and the balloons fly a short drive from where the ships tie up. But cruise schedules are tight, ships move, and the excursion desk on board does not always explain your options. Here is how to fit the balloon into a cruise without stress.

Which morning should I book?
Look at your itinerary for the mornings your ship is docked in Luxor. On most Luxor–Aswan cruises that is the first one or two mornings (southbound) or the last one or two (northbound).
- Southbound (Luxor to Aswan): book the first Luxor morning. If wind cancels the flight, there may still be a second Luxor morning before the ship sails.
- Northbound (Aswan to Luxor): book the first morning after the ship arrives in Luxor, leaving the final morning as a backup if your departure allows.
Tell us your ship name and itinerary on WhatsApp and we will suggest the best morning.
How the pickup works
Pickup is included from Nile cruise ships docked on either bank of the river in Luxor — there is no extra charge. A driver meets you at the ship’s reception or gangway at your confirmed time, usually between about 03:45 in summer and 05:15 in winter. Let the reception desk know the night before: ships often moor several abreast, and you may walk through the lobbies of neighbouring boats to reach the shore. Full timings are on our flight information page.
What if my ship moves overnight?
Some ships change mooring between the East and West Bank, or shift along the corniche. Ask the reception desk where the ship will be docked in the morning and send us the name of the mooring. If your ship is moored on the West Bank, you are already close to the launch field.
Will I be back before the ship sails?
You are usually back at the ship by 07:30 to 09:00 depending on the season — well before most sailing times, and often in time for breakfast on board. If your ship sails early that morning, tell us when booking and we will check the timing honestly before you pay.
Booking through the ship vs booking direct
Cruise excursion desks often sell balloon flights, which is convenient. Booking direct with the operator usually means you know exactly which company flies you, the basket size, and the refund rules if the weather cancels. Ask the same questions either way — they are in our safety guide.
Combining the cruise and the balloon in one package
Our Luxor + Nile Cruise + Hot Air Balloon package arranges both: the sunrise flight and West Bank tour in Luxor, then four to five days sailing to Aswan past Edfu and Kom Ombo. For a week covering Cairo too, see the 7-day Egypt Discovery.

You choose between a full refund or another available morning. Read what happens when a flight is cancelled.
