The Sunrise Experience is our signature hot air balloon ride over Luxor and the flight most of our guests choose. You are collected from your hotel or Nile cruise ship in the dark, driven across to our launch field on the West Bank, and you watch the balloons inflate as the sky turns from indigo to gold. Twenty minutes later you are 1,500 feet above the necropolis, looking down on four thousand years of Egyptian history.
What the flight is like
Balloons in Luxor fly with the wind, so no two mornings take the same path. On a typical flight you drift north over the Theban necropolis: the Valley of the Kings and its tomb entrances cut into the hillside, the terraces of the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, the Ramesseum, the Colossi of Memnon standing in the fields, and the green ribbon of sugar cane that separates the desert from the Nile. As the sun clears the eastern cliffs you can pick out Karnak and Luxor Temple on the far bank.
The basket is shared, holds up to 24 guests in separate compartments, and everybody gets an outside edge. Your pilot talks you through what you are looking at throughout the flight.

Good to know
- Pickup is roughly 4:00–4:30 AM, earlier in summer, later in winter. We confirm the exact time the evening before.
- Allow about 3 to 3.5 hours from pickup to drop-off.
- Wear closed shoes and bring a light jacket — Luxor mornings are cool before sunrise, even in July.
- Flights are weather dependent. If the pilot cannot fly safely we move you to the next morning or refund you in full.

What you will see
On a normal morning the balloon drifts within sight of Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Nile River, Colossi of Memnon, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple — the exact route depends on the wind, which is what makes every flight different.
Questions about this flight
Hotel pickup is usually between 4:00 and 4:30 AM, and the balloon lifts off right at sunrise — roughly 5:30 AM in summer and 6:30 AM in winter. Exact times shift with the season, so we confirm your pickup the evening before your flight.
The flight itself lasts 35 to 45 minutes in the air. Allow around 3 to 3.5 hours door to door, including hotel pickup, the safety briefing, inflation, the flight, the landing celebration and the drive back to your hotel or Nile cruise.

Yes. Every flight is operated under the regulations of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority by licensed commercial balloon pilots, with fully insured passengers, modern equipment inspected before each flight, and a strict no-fly rule whenever wind or visibility falls outside safe limits.
Wear comfortable closed shoes, long trousers and a light jacket or fleece — early mornings in Luxor are cool even in summer, and layers come off once the sun rises. Bring a hat, sunglasses and your camera; the basket has room for it.
October to April offers the most comfortable temperatures and the highest number of flyable mornings. Balloons fly year round in Luxor, and summer flights take off earlier when the air is coolest and calmest.
